Yanina Welp
Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy
Yanina Welp is Research Fellow at the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy, at the Graduate Institute in Geneva (Switzerland).
She is specialised in the study of political participation, on which she has published numerous books, articles, and book chapters. Her latest book is The Will of the People: Populism and Direct Democracy in Latin America (De Gruyter 2022). She is Co-Founder of the Red de Politólogas
Between 2016 and 2019, she was Co-Director of the Latin American Zurich Center at the University of Zurich. She has worked in Switzerland, Spain, and Argentina, for the Center for Democracy Studies (2008-2019), the Latin American Center in St. Gallen (2011-2014), the University of Geneva (2006-2007), the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2004-2006), Pompeu Fabra University (2001-2004), the University of Buenos Aires (1998), and the University of Morón (1997-1999).
She holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from Pompeu Fabra University and a BA in Political Science and Social Communication Sciences, both from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). She obtained the Habilitation with venia legendi in Latin American Studies from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
