Xavier Labandeira

Xavier Labandeira is Professor of Economics at the University of Vigo, where is part of the Research Group in Energy, Innovation and Environment (REDE, in Spanish) and the Galician research centre ECOBAS. He is also Director of Economics for Energy, a private research centre specialised in the analysis of energy issues. He is also a Research Affiliate of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He is a member of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the preparation of its Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports. In addition, he directed the Florence School of Regulation-Climate at the European University Institute in Florence (2014-17) and was responsible for the Chair on Energy and Sustainable Development at UVI (2011-19) and the Chair on Economics of Climate Change at FEDEA (2007-09).
He holds a master’s degree in environmental economics from University College London (UCL) and a Degree in Economics from the University of Santiago de Compostela.
