ABOUT RICARDO

Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu is a diplomat and current Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine.

In his diplomatic career he has been Ambassador of Spain to Ivory Coast and Liberia, Director of the Analysis and Forecasting Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Deputy Director General of Common Foreign and Security Policy in the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Advisor in the International and Security Department of the Cabinet of the President of the Government. He has also been Deputy Representative of Spain in the Political and Security Committee of the EU in Brussels, and Second-in-Command at the Spanish embassies in South Africa and Nicaragua.

Before his current position in Kyiv, he was Resident Distinguished Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) in Washington DC. His publications cover issues such as strategic foresight, prospects for the European Union and the West in a changing global order, European security, democracy and disinformation, and Africa.

He holds a Law Degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, a DEA in Community Law from Panthéon-Assas University, a Diploma in European Security from the National Defence Advanced Studies Centre (CESEDEN) and a Diploma in Public Policy Management from IESE Business School. He entered the diplomatic career in 1997.
