José María Marín Quemada has been President of the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) between 2013 and 2020.

Professor of Applied Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the National University of Distance Education (UNED), until 2013 he was Head Researcher of the International and Spanish Political Economy Research Group at the UNED. Previously, he was a Director of the Bank of Spain and a member of its Governing Council between 2005 and 2013, as well as a full member of the Royal Academy of Doctors.

He accumulates extensive business experience in the private sector and has written numerous articles, conferences and books on energy, monetary policy and economics.

He holds a PhD and a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid
