ABOUT IBRAHIM

Ibrahim Mayaki was Chief Executive Officer of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency, which became the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) in 2018.

He is co-chair of the UN High-Level Panel on Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (FACTI Panel) established in 2020 and has been Honorary Phair of the OECD’s Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC) (2019-2022). From 2004 to 2009, he was Executive Director of Rural Hub, a Dakar-based platform that supports rural development stakeholders in Western and Central Africa.

As Prime Minister of Niger from 1997 to 2000, he created the first National Commission for Social Dialogue. In August 2000, he founded the Cercle d’analyse des politiques publics, a think tank on public policy in health and education.

He was Visiting Professor at the University of Paris XI, where he taught international affairs and international organisations, and led research at the Centre for Research on Europe and the Contemporary World in the same university. He has also worked as a Professor of Public Administration and Management in Niger (1978-82) and Venezuela (1985-87).

He holds a PhD in Administrative Sciences from the University of Paris I (France) and a master’s degree from the National School of Public Administration (Enap), Quebec (Canada).

He has received honorary decorations and awards such as “Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Mérite” (Niger), “Commandeur de l’Ordre National du Mérite Agricole” (France), “Encomienda de Número de la Orden Isabel la Católica” (Spain), the 2017 Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation “Water” Award, “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun” (Japan) and “Commandeur de l’Ordre national du Lion” (Senegal), among others.
