Alicia García Herrero is Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at the French investment bank Natixis in Hong Kong, Senior Fellow at the economic think-tank Bruegel in Brussels and Professor in the Department of Economics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
She is also a Non-Resident Research Fellow at the East Asian Institute of the National University of Singapore and a member of the Spanish Government’s Advisory Council on Economic Affairs, the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), the Elcano Royal Institute and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) Research Centre. Previously, she has been Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at BBVA, member of the Asia Research Programme of the Bank for International Settlements in Hong Kong (BIS), Director of the International Economics Division of the Bank of Spain, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Santander and Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She holds a PhD in Economics from George Washington University and a master’s degree in international economics from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. She holds a Degree in Business Administration from the University of Burgos and a Degree in Economics from Bocconi University.
