ABOUT ALEJANDRO

Alejandro Werner is Founding Director of the Georgetown Americas Institute (GAI) at Georgetown University. He is an expert in economic outlook, emerging markets, monetary policy, currency, financial crises, and fiscal policy in Latin America.

From 2013 and 2021, he served as Director of the Western Hemisphere Department (WHD) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He has been a professor at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM), Instituto de Empresa, and Yale University.

He has also served as Under-Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Director of Economic Policy, and Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Finance of Mexico, as well as Director of Economic Studies at the Bank of Mexico and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at BBVA-Bancomer. In 2007, he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a BA in Economics from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico.
