In a context of growing tension and uncertainty in the Korean Peninsula, the purpose is to mobilize political support in the Six-Party Talks countries and in the European Union for launching a diplomatic process that would prevent two worrisome and plausible scenarios: a military conflict and the full-fledged nuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
More specifically, we will explore the possibility of potential diplomatic involvement of the European Union External Action Service and/or some key European countries in the opening of a substantive political dialogue between Pyongyang and the international community. European diplomacy already played that role in the nuclear deal with Iran, a scenario of deep mutual distrust among the involved parties and grim prospects like the North Korean nuclear crisis.
