The aim of the eighth edition of the survey is to provide a full comparative picture of debates on European issues –such as the integration process and current developments in European politics- in the EU’s member states and two candidate countries (Croatia and Turkey). The project is coordinated by the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) and Institutes from all 27 EU member states –including the Elcano Royal Institute– as well as Croatia and Turkey. The survey was conducted on the basis of a questionnaire prepared in November 2008 by all participating institutes. Most of the 29 reports were delivered in February 2009. The topics discussed were:
- How does the future of the EU after the Irish ‘No’ look
- Transatlantic relations renewed after President Bush: top priorities
- Financial crisis and challenges of global governance: the EU response
- Looking back to the French Presidency
- Prospects for ENP and enlargement after ‘Georgia’
- Current issues and discourses in the member states
