Tuesday, 26th November 2024, from 12:00 to 13:30 h. CET (UTC+1). Venue: Círculo de Bellas Artes (Valle-Inclán room), c/ Marqués de Casa Riera 2, 5th floor, Madrid.
Current development challenges and the defence of global public goods both require the global mobilisation of financial and non-financial resources at a much larger scale than Official Development Assistance (ODA) can achieve. A holistic approach is therefore needed to assess international financing for development efforts, accounting for the contributions, complementarities, and potential of diverse sources of public and private financing, including domestic resource mobilisation, foreign direct investment, impact investment, debt restructuring, and climate financing, among others. This requires stronger alignment and coordination between traditional development actors and the private sector, which will only be possible through open dialogue to facilitate the identification of the political and economic motivations for the private sector to take on a more central role in development processes, as well as the reasons why development processes ought to be more present in private sector activities. All of this is critical for the projection and presence of Spain on the global stage.
