Venue: European Policy Centre (EPC)
Wednesday, 24th September 2025, from 16:15 to 17:45 h. CEST (UTC+2). Venue: European Policy Centre (Rue du Trône 14-16, 1000 Brussels, Belgium).
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU has shown strong support for Ukraine at the political, economic, social, and military levels. Yet this has not been sufficient to achieve the objective of a Russian defeat.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump’s declared intention to seek a rapid end to the war has forced European leaders to consider a scenario in which the US withdraws its support and downscales its role in upholding Europe’s security. In this context, the EU faces the crucial task of maintaining its commitments to Ukraine as well as devising security guarantees for both Ukraine and itself.
This conversation will explore the evolving trajectory of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the implications of shifting transatlantic dynamics, and the EU’s capacity to sustain support, shape Europe’s future security architecture, and deliver on its promises to Ukraine’s path towards membership.
