Thursday, 29th February 2024, from 12:00 to 13:30 h. CET (UTC+1). Venue: The Botín Foundation, c/ Castelló nº 18 C, Madrid.
Over the past twenty years since the 11-M terrorist attacks in 2004, which marked the deadliest jihadist attack in Europe to date, jihadist mobilization and its inherent terrorist threat have not vanished from our societies but have evolved.
As we mark the twentieth anniversary of the Madrid attacks, this roundtable will reflect on the evolution of the global jihadist movement in Spain over the last decade. Drawing on original data on jihadists convicted or deceased in our country between 2012 and 2023, the speakers will present three documents analysing the patterns of change and continuity in this phenomenon, focusing on the characterization of jihadists, their processes of violent radicalization, and their involvement patterns in terrorist activities.
