Thursday, 20 February 2025, from 12:00 to 13:30 h. CET (UTC+1). Venue: Espacio Bertelsmann, c/ O’Donnell nº 10, Madrid.

Germany is facing enormous challenges. The political system is fragmented, extreme positions are on the rise, the economic model is being questioned, and the general sentiment is negative. Can a new government change course? There is a lot at stake for Europe in these federal elections to be held on 23 February. Without the German engine, the necessary European integration process cannot move forward.

The roundtable was composed of Judith Arnal, Senior Analyst at the Elcano Royal Institute; André Härtel, Head of the Brussels Office at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP); Miguel Otero Iglesias, Senior Analyst at the Elcano Royal Institute; and Catrina Schläger, Head of the Analysis and Planning Department at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Berlin. The welcome was delivered by Luise Rürup, Resident Representative of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Spain and Portugal, while the discussion was chaired by Charles Powell, Director of the Elcano Royal Institute.
