Tuesday, 9th July 2024, from 12:00 to 13:30 h. CEST (UTC+2). Venue: Espacio Bertelsmann, c/ O’Donnell nº 10, Madrid.

France and the United Kingdom held elections in the first week of July. They are two different political systems, and the domestic scenarios differ (in one case, with the success of the far right in the first round and, in the other, with an announced landslide victory for Labour). However, both countries have relevance internationally and the results will have a great impact abroad, also in Spain.

Many questions arise: Will the French leadership in the EU be weakened? What to expect from the rise of Euroscepticism on such an important Member State? Is a new era in the relationship between London, Brussels and the European capitals about to begin? Will the new British government bring about a renewal of the centre-left like that of Tony Blair three decades ago?
